Members of the Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council (CDTC) work together as a unified region to develop strategic plans for better roads, bridges, trails, buses, railroads and airports. CDTC establishes transportation priorities that support the region’s economic prosperity and quality of life. (www.chelan-douglas.org)
Jeff Wilkens is the Executive Director for the Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council. Jeff is responsible for overall management and leadership of the Council and staff. He is originally from St. Louis Missouri, where he studied Sociology and Urban Planning at Westminster College and the University of Iowa. After working in regional and state government for 5 years in southwest Washington, he relocated to the Wenatchee Valley in 2002 for the opportunity to start-up and manage the Council. After working in the region for 20 years, he remains motivated by the uniqueness and potential of the Wenatchee Valley.

AUCTION UPDATE. A message from 'Auction Queen' Jill Leonard. "The Rotary Auction was a blast! We had about 200 people attend, including more than 50 Rotarians. It was a fun night of cornhole, balloon pops, and the ever-popular Heads or Tails.

ROTARY FOUNDATION (TRF) GALA FEB. 23. A sequel to the 2021 celebration, ticket price is $120, with $100 of which will be credited towards your Paul Harris points, if you include your Rotary member ID number. That number can be found in your ClubRunner profile, or on our published member list HERE. It runs from 5 PM to 7 PM PST.
DON ELFVING. From PP Pete Van Well. "My uncle spoke with Dusti Elfving this afternoon. They took Don to the hospital where he died from pneumonia. The pneumonia was the cause of death, but it really was the advanced Parkinson’s and stroke he had last year that lead to his downfall. Dusti wanted to reach out to Wenatchee Rotary, where Don was a board member (I think Jim Russell or Jesus was the last president he served under). I believe Don kept the attendance at the club for several years. He joined sometime around the time I did which was 1995. At one time, Dusti was also a member of our club. He and Dusti met in Wenatchee, but I don’t know if Rotary was the cupid in that relationship. They moved to Texas to be closer to family. In Wenatchee, Don worked for the WSU Tree Fruit Research Station, where he served a number of years as Superintendent. He was among the most knowledgeable people in the country on Apple physiology, if not the most knowledgeable. He provided great research to the apple industry on getting trees to branch, tree dormancy and apple storage and maturity. He worked at other Universities around North America as well."
From Don's wife Dusti. "It is with a heavy heart that I must tell our family and friends that we have lost an incredible man. Our Lord decided that this evening Sunday, Jan. 30th, 2022 5PM >>it was time to take my Don to His Lords KINGDOM. Don is an incredible man and he will be preparing all the Orchards for the best Apples, Cherries, pears, and Nut trees in the Kingdom of Heaven. Don was an amazing Scientist and loved his career and made a difference around the WORLD.. He had so much Passion and Love in his heart! I was so blessed to have had him in my life. Don was truly my life and one day we will embrace it again. Love and Hug your families and friends and tell them how you feel. Thank you for all your support and prayers."

A Florida native, Lauren has lived in Washington State on and off since 2014. She earned her Bachelors in Business Administration and Masters of Science in Agricultural Education and Communication both from the University of Florida. She spent several years in higher education working for the University of Florida extension system and then with Washington State University Extension overseeing community and 4-H youth development research and outreach programs in counties across Washington. She even dabbled in some international development projects too, working with educators in Burundi, Haiti and Paraguay. In recent years, Lauren and her husband, Micah lived in the Sacramento area of Northern California, where she worked in Marketing for the agricultural financial lender Farm Credit West. In early 2020 after the birth of her first child, Lauren, Micah and their son, Harrison, were presented with the opportunity to fulfill a dream and live in Wenatchee, WA. After living and working in the Moses Lake and Ephrata area for many years prior, they had always dreamed of living in the Apple Capital. At the beginning of the Pandemic, they packed up and moved their small family (including Lauren’s pet rabbit Queenie) back to Washington and have enjoyed being here ever since. Today, Lauren continues her passion for serving communities in Central Washington in her role as risk management advisor and business insurance sales representative for PayneWest Insurance. Although she grew up going to Florida beaches, today she enjoys hiking, running, camping, wine tasting and really anything that allows her to explore the beautiful outdoors of the Wenatchee Valley and Pacific Northwest. But to be honest, most free time is now spent chasing around Harrison who is now a very active toddler and preparing for the birth of her second child—a girl expected to arrive in February 2022.
