Throughout April, we will be hearing testimonies from recipients of our AUCTION proceeds, and how the funds will be used to change lives. At the meeting, learn how the $128,000 will disbursed and why.
We will be hearing about the fight against homelessness and racism in the Greater Wenatchee Valley, which is the main focus of their mission.....
Mission Statement - YWCA North Central Washington is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. Our local vision is to empower women, men, and children to break the cycle of economic insecurity and homelessness and achieve self-sufficiency through assistance, support and education.
Some History - The first YWCA was established in London, England in 1855. Originally a Christian organization dedicated to social justice, it focused on improving the lives of working women and housing nurses returning from the Crimean war. The United States developed its first chapter in 1858, and YWCA North Central Washington, orginally called “YWCA Wenatchee Valley” was incorporated in Washington State as a non-profit 501c3 on January 2nd, 1957.

Mayor Crawford was introduced by P/E Jill Leonard.
Mayor Crawford gave a brief overview of the Strategic Plan, completed in late 2021. In November 2021, the East Wenatchee City Council adopted the first Strategic Plan for the City of East Wenatchee. The purpose of the Strategic Plan is to provide the City with a guiding document, setting priorities for the next five years. Strategic planning is a method by which the City Council plans and prioritizes its goals in a transparent and accountable manner, which will enable the City to efficiently move the community forward. Decision making about government services considers the City's needs, while balancing available resources and utilizing best practices to deliver services and support for East Wenatchee’s long term success. This Strategic Plan informs the City Budget, as well as act as a roadmap to guide us from vision to reality. The City uses this Plan to align our limited resources with prioritized initiatives, which connect to a broader vision for our community’s future. City of East Wenatchee Draft Strategic Plan (eastwenatcheewa.gov) . It is based on these values:
Mission - The Mission of the City of East Wenatchee is to maintain trust and provide efficient and quality service to all who live, work, and play in the City.
Vision - A diverse, well-planned, safe, and thriving city with a strong sense of community that provides equal opportunity for all
A major revelation of the focus groups was that most citizens like the small town atmosphere, so that view was included, i.e. a strong sense of community. The mayor discussed the goals of the plan. Major goal areas of the study were to develop strategies for:
Managing Growth
Housing Affordability
Vibrant Community and Economy
Outreach
Community Health and Safety
Effective and Efficient Government

--- DEAR APPLESAUCE ---
Dear AppleSauce:When they say a specific dog food has a “new and improved flavor,” who tests it? Since you claim to know everything, perhaps it’s you?
-- Best Friend to Fido
Dear BFF, Inflation may be at an all-time high, but please refrain from coveting poor Fido’s dinner. As to your question, Dear Applesauce prefers a liquid diet, as regular readers will have no doubt garnered. If memory serves, Horace Sampson of the Paducah, KY club is the only Rotarian with the classification Dog Food Taster.
Dear Applesauce, Why do we call it “life insurance”?
--- Poor Choice Charlie
Dear Charlie, Dear Applesauce has often pondered this exact same thing. People basically are betting large corporations that they will die before a well-paid actuary thinks they will. Good luck with that!
