Program description: Our Valley Our Future (OVOF) is getting ready to release its new five-year Action Plan in late March. In 2021, the nonprofit organization collected input from approximately 2,000 community members who told of their own needs, the challenges they see the region facing, and how those challenges could be solved. From that input, six citizen committees spread across six focus areas developed about 80 projects, programs and initiatives that make up the new Action Plan. OVOF coordinator Steve Maher will discuss what was learned from community members and what key projects are included in the new plan.

Biography: Steve Maher is coordinator of Our Valley Our Future (OVOF), a visioning, planning and community-building nonprofit serving Chelan and Douglas counties. Prior to working for OVOF, Steve completed a 25-year career in the newspaper industry as an editor and reporter, including at The Wenatchee World and Eugene Register-Guard. Steve was born and raised in Portland, Ore. He has called Wenatchee home since 1989.

ROTARY LUNCH (weekly).   Tradition has it that most Rotary Club meetings are held at mealtime while food is served. The fellowship opportunities with dinning always were important. In moving to Pybus our club chose not to provide meals partially because of the number of restaurants available and the cost. However, the cafés use was found to be cumbersome.
What we have found we can do is provide “deli” type of simple lunches easily and at a low cost.   At least through March, we will provide a selection of small sandwiches, snacks and water for a $5 dollar donation.  We will have the food available at 11 am. Come join in and meet with your fellow Rotarians for a Fellowship lunch. It is also an opportunity to volunteer to provide the meal service.    -- Ford

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION IS THE BEST.   For the 14th consecutive year, The Rotary Foundation (TRF) has received the highest rating — four stars — from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the U.S.  READ MORE HERE.

With Angela Morris

Previous APPLESEED.

The meeting was opened by President Alice introducing 3 guest entertainers from Wenatchee High School who are in the cast of "FROZEN".  They were Ainsley Shearer, Violet Madison, and Gabe Kimmel, who performed two songs from the show.   Watch brief video HERE.  The show is performed March 2-5, and 16-19.  Get ticket info HERE.

Ken Robertson introduced the main speaker, Angela Morris, Associate Director, who used an informative PowerPoint to illustrate her information.  Some of her images are shown below.  View her entire PowerPoint HERE.  Her full bio can be read on the CDLT website HERE, along with other staff members.

Chelan Douglas Land Trust was founded in 1985. From 1985-1999 CDLT was an entirely volunteer organization that played a major role in the local and regional effort to protect access to the Peshastin Pinnacles climbing area, Spider Meadows, and the Columbia River Loop Trail.  Angela explained the purpose and methods of the Land Trust, and how it affects the quality of life in the valley.  It currently boasts over 2700 members (see first image below) and owns about 7,000 acres of the more that 27,000 acres being conserved.  She discussed all the approaches used to conserve land, including weed control, habitat restoration, healthy forest management, and climate resilience.  They have partnerships with private land owners, other non-profits and government agencies, cultural and tribal groups.   Our approach is successful because it is collaborative, voluntary, and incentive-based.   Our work includes land protection projects, education and outreachstewardshiptrails, and landowner services.

Angela went on to describe some current and recent projects such the Cashmere Canyon Reserve (pictured), Badger Mountain, Chelan Coulees Reserve at Lake Chelan, Nason Ridge at Lake Wenatchee, Spiva Butte Preserve in Douglas County, and Entiat River where CDLT owns 13 small properties.

There are many opportunities to support CDLT and get involved.  She encouraged anyone to visit/peruse the CDLT website.
