Woody Lotts from the Numerica Performing Arts Center will be presenting on August 11. He will share what the Numerica PAC has done in our first year reopened after going dark during Covid-19 pandemic. He will also talk about a full season of shows we have and the move to connect with our Spanish speaking community. Plus, we will be talking about a partnership with the PAC and the Rotary Clubs of the Wenatchee Valley.
Info on Woody- A veteran producer of live theater, festivals, concerts, and other cultural events, Woody has served as a tour manager for Seattle’s Book-It Repertory Theatre and as a producer for the Driftwood Players Theatre and Phoenix Theatre in Edmonds.
This week focused on individuals who Imagine Rotary and make a huge impact. Of course, the club started with our beloved Carmen.
1. Pete Van Well and others gave personal moving recollections of Carmen Bossenbrock who passed away July 31 after 35 years of distinguished Rotary membership. Pete gave a brief synopsis of Carmen's life, especially as the only physical therapist in Wenatchee during the polio epidemic of the 1950s.
Viewing Visitation will be held on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 3pm-8pm located at Heritage Memorial Chapel, 19 Rock Island Rd, East Wenatchee. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, August 9, at 11 AM, located at Cashmere Cemetery at the corner of Pioneer and Evergreen. Read the obituary.
Carmen was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Paul Scea Fellow. Wenatchee Rotary Named her Polio Champion in 2016. In 2018, she was recipient of the first-ever Rotary District 5060 "Polio Achievement Award" and in 2019, of the Rotary International PolioPlus Pioneer Award 2019. These two presentations were made by the district governor at the time, Bill Jenkin, and Sherry Chamberlain and were written up in the two Appleseeds..... May 31, 2018 and April 4, 2019. 2. David Barshes of Wenatchee Sunrise Rotary spoke about their Challenge Scholarship program.
The purpose of the Challenge Scholarship is to challenge selected high school sophomore students:
To finish high school on time with their class,
To demonstrate service to the community, and
To enroll in post high school education.
Students, who have challenges in their life that might prevent them from finishing high school and receiving post high school training, are invited to apply for the scholarship when they are sophomores in high school. Their challenges may include: living in poverty, dealing with drug or alcohol issues, being a young parent, having to live on their own at a young age among other things. Their teachers, school counselor or school administrators invite them to apply and as part of the Challenge Scholarship application provide a written recommendation for their student.
David named the current student recipients and thanked 4 of our members who serve as mentors: Matthew, Meliesa, PP Kory and his partner Haylee. More mentors are needed. To volunteer, contact David here- david_barshes@hotmail.com.

VOLYN RETURNS. Attorney Jon Volyn was re-inducted in a very brief ceremony. His original induction was March 15, 2018, along with Jim Brink and Thomas Everly (who Jill says will serve as his unofficial mentors).
The original Rotary Charge was effectively delivered by Phil Rasmussen (Raz), the audio recording of which can still be heard here. His theme was that we should "be Rotarians", not just members. We would all do well to listen to his excellent remarks again or for the first time.
COMMITTEE SPOTLIGHT. WRF President, Ken Robertson spoke about the spoke about the Wenatchee Rotary Foundation (WRF) mission and achievements. Members are encouraged to support the WRF with contributions to the Paul Scea Fellowship, the Legacy Society program. The WRF is hosting an Ice Cream Social fellowship event on August 18 from 5:30pm-6:15pm at the Rotary Park North Pavilion. Event is open to Rotarians and their families.

History: Purchase agreement signed in 1929 to buy land for $3,000; sale completed in 1936. Rotary paid off the remaining mortgage.

1946 Rotary Paid 20 carpenters to spend a day at the camp. All funds raised through local donations.

Facilities: Lodge, caretaker's home, bathroom/shower house, trading post, and storage building
Use: Hosted the regional summer camp until 1965, now the site of winter camps, day camps, Cub Scout outings, local troop activities and rented out to private organizations.
Given our support of Scout-a-Vista, Jill questioned why we do not have a plaque in the camp lodge highlighting the influence of our club. Tom Leonard, husband of President Jill, was Winter Camp Director for 9 years.
