Lorien will give an overview of how PetHub works with animal welfare organizations like Wenatchee Humane to improve community pet identification, lost pet recovery and can help shelters raise money. She'll also cover the benefits of pet licensing and how it helps communities and organizations like Wenatchee Humane.
Former Rotarian Lorien Clemens is the co-founder and CEO at PetHub, Inc. She joined PetHub in June of 2011 as the start-up was in its beginning stages. She has guided PetHub to its wins of multiple pet industry awards, including two Dog Fancy Magazine Editors' Choice Awards, the PetAGE Magazine Retailer Silver Select Award, and two Pet Business Magazine Product of the Year Awards for its unique digital ID tags and online services. Most recently, PetHub was named one of Business Insider Magazine's 50 Coolest New Businesses in America.
Individually, Lorien was honored by PetAge Magazine as one of the pet industry’s Women of Influence....
Former Wenatchee Rotarian Bob Bugert, sponsored/introduced by Carin Smith, shared some thoughts on his last 4 years as a Chelan County commissioner, declaring it to be a rewarding but challenging experience.
He spoke glowingly about some of his colleagues and some county leaders and also addressed some his primary frustrations. He praised county leadership, especially department directors, e.g. Eric Pierson, Chris Sharp, Mike Kaputa, and Ana Johnson. Chief problems for the county are employee retention and recruiting due to lack of resources.
Some details: The county employs about 500, with an operating budget of almost $50M and a capital budget of around $144M. The general fund amounts to about $13M. He is optimistic about near-term revenue because of expected new construction, especially on the south end, e.g. Microsoft.
His greatest frustration has been trying to solve the politically divisive problem of short-term rentals (STRs). These are essentially commercial enterprises and create issues nationally, even globally, complicating residential zoning and taxation. Bob's best guess is that there are roughly 1600 STRs in Chelan County, as high as 16% of homes in some areas, and 1 in 3 in a few. There are many irritating problems with these when the renters are totally irresponsible. They cause a lost sense of neighborhood and community.The county is taking some actions, mainly placing a 6% cap on the number allowed in any community and screening applicants carefully; lawsuits are expected. GUESTS. Former member attorney Jon Volyn has applied for readmission to the club, sponsored by Pete Van Well. Jon left us May 2019 (after about 15 months) due to business pressure. He was originally sponsored by Nate Bishop. He has been approved by the board and, if no objections, will become a member after two Appleseed mentions. Any objections should be sent to Secretary Frank.
COMMITTEE SPOTLIGHT. Our Sargent-at-Arms (S/A) team needs more volunteers! The team currently consists of only two faithful members: Dick Reed and Leonard Singhose. Both were absent this week, creating some stress. Thankfully, Dick was able to setup banners and drop off supplies before the meeting, and then former S/A member Gene Anderson (bless him) stepped in to help.
It is a relatively simple job involving mostly setup and takedown on a rotational basis, say monthly. Contact Dick if interested.

What happened to the days of men like Dr. Phil Davenport who was always bow tied and buttoned down? Thankfully the women of the club help bring everything Wenatchee Rotary up a notch or two!
