Terry A. Sorom

Terry was born in Lanesboro, Minnesota -- a Norwegian ghetto of 1100 folks. About his education, Terry summarizes, "Luther College B.A., University of Minnesota, BS and MD degrees. Interned, University of Oregon."

He felt somewhat safer during the Viet Nam era, to be in Uncle Sam's Air Force -- stationed in Panama. He was able to travel in every country in South and Central America.

A family practice for a short period in Astoria, Oregon was followed by residency in Ophthalmology from 1969 to 1973. He joined the Wenatchee Eye and Ear Clinic in March of 1973 and retired from there in March of 2000.

Presently serving as an Ophthalmic Consultant He says, "It looks good on paper!"

Terry is married to Suzanne, an English and Drama professor and, fortunately, a wonderful cook and flyfisher person. She currently is:

  • President of The Wenatchee Family Planning Board.
  • Chairman of the Board for the North Central Washington Museum Association.

They have four sons:

  • Martin is a first grade teacher at Lincoln school.
  • Jeb is a Senior at U of W Medical School.
  • Ted is a mechanical engineer with Light and Motion Industries in Monterey, California.
  • Abe is in 2nd year of medical school at The Mayo Clinic.

Terry was one of the founding Board members of:

  • The Greater Wenatchee Community Foundation.
  • The Wenatchee Visitor and Convention Bureau.

He has also served as:

  • President of the Wenatchee Valley College Foundation.
  • State President for the Washington state Ophthalmology Association.

Terry says, "Retirement has brought me increased time for community involvement (and meddling) and for more fishing, hunting and woodworking as well as more time for golf, reading and travel."

He joined Wenatchee Rotary in 1987 and was Club President in 1993-1994, but years of perfect attendance continue to elude him.

Terry served as District 5060 Chair for World Community Service for three years.

Presently he is in charge of Wenatchee Rotary's Procurement Division for the March 2001 "Back to Camp" auction. His motto is "Procure your items or else!"

About Rotary, Terry observes, "It has provided me an opportunity to share time and experiences with some of the most 'involved' members of the community. I appreciate the efforts made by our club in making Wenatchee a better place to live for everyone".

Terry is a Paul Harris Fellow and a Paul Scea Fellow.
