JAMES E. "Jim" ROSENAU
Jim Rosenau has been a member of Wenatchee Rotary since 1978. As Jim reminisced about the intervening years since he retired from Murphey Favre Inc. as an investment counselor and stock broker, he commented about retirement and his and Aileen's recent travels.
"Retirement is that period of time when you spend that which you have earned through hard work. Aileen and I have been doing the spending on extensive and extended travel, including a 3 month stint covering 14 countries in Europe and the eastern European countries of Poland, Hungary and The Czech Republic."
"Also, an Alaskan Tour and Cruise and the cruise thru the Panama (Pre-China) Canal followed an Aegean Sea cruise covering Turkey, Greece and Italy."
Jim described other trips that were Rotary-related:
- "We visited Australia under the guidance of our Rotary exchange student Susie Norton and her family. For two Rotary International Conventions, we visited Toronto and Munich. The Munich convention developed into a tour of England, made exceptional by homestay visits with Rotarians."
- "The most recent Rotary involvement was that of a visit to Troitsk, Russia (25 miles from Moscow) where Wenatchee Rotary, Cashmere Rotary and several individuals, working with the Troitsk Rotary club, established 7 computer stations to provide internet access for young people who are gifted beyond belief but are homebound with serious physical limitations.... 10 most edifying days."
- "I was chairman of the US portion of our District 5060 Polio Plus fund raising program. The financial success of that program inspired Aileen and me to go on to establish six Paul Harris Fellowships, with all funds going to Polio Plus."
Also, Jim recalled that a long friendship with Paul Scea, and the most worthwhile goal of establishing Scholarships at Wenatchee Valley College, prompted the Rosenaus to establish ten "Paul Scea Fellowships" in their "Some and Another Angel(s) Of Our Valley" program ...."Treasured moments."
Editor's note: Jim declined to talk about childhood in North Dakota or WWII in Europe, preferring to focus on Rotary and today.
"I wear my Rotary Past President pin (1983-1984) with pride for it reflects the great, human things that Rotary has done and is doing, especially in this most beautiful valley, peopled by wonderful, caring folk."
He and Aileen have one daughter, three sons amd eight grandchildren.
