Gary L. Montague
Gary has been a Rotarian since 1971.
After completing his formal education in the Wenatchee school system in 1957, he joined the Wenatchee Daily World in advertising sales. He became president of several regional newspaper organizations during his newspaper career and retired as manager of the Classified Advertising Department in 1997.
Gary and Mikael were married in 1982 and now have 4 grown children and 8 grandchildren. He and Mikael have been Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Guardian Ad Litem for children in the legal system, for many years, representing the best interests of the child in all activities of the court.
He was elected to the Chelan County PUD Board of Commissioners in 1998 and is now also on the Board of the Washington P.U.D. Association and is the PUD's representative to the Northwest Hydro Association. He isactive in the Northwest Public Power Association, the National Hydro Association and the American Public Power Association.
Gary has a long history of community service as shown by service as present or past President of:
- Music Theatre of Wenatchee
- Wenatchee Chamber of Commerce
- Central Washington Hospital Foundation
- Allied Arts Council of North Central Washington
- Wenatchee Valley Convention and Visitor Bureau
- Mainstream Republicans of Chelan & Douglas Counties
Gary was chairman of the Washington State Arts Commission, serving as Commissioner under four governors and was a member of the Western States Arts Foundation for many years.
He and Mikael are founding members of the Wenatchee Valley Clean Air Coalition where they coordinate with Wenatchee Rotary's Clean Air Poster Contest. Gary is also on the Board of the American Lung Association of Washington as well as the board of the Better Business Bureau of Central Washington.
While on the Board of the Wenatchee Rotary Foundation, Gary focuses on securing grants for our Foundation.
Gary and Mikael enjoy an annual pilgrimage to the beaches of Grand Cayman Island.
