Michael T. "Mike" Harum

Mike Harum moved to Wenatchee with his family from Superior, Wisconsin in the early 60s, at age 8, and attended the Wenatchee public schools.

Mike decided on a career in "Law Enforcement" as a teenager and in his last year at Wenatchee High School, became the first Cadet in the Chelan County Sheriff's Office. There he was an observer and volunteer in all aspects of Law Enforcement.

Now, 25 years later, he continues with the Chelan County Sheriff's Office, having served as:

• Communications and Corrections Deputy, 1976 to '80
• Patrol Deputy, '80 to '92
• Patrol Sergeant, '92 to '96
• Chief Inspector, '96 to '01

Currently he is Senior Patrol Sergeant in the Chelan County Sheriff's Office.

Throughout his career, Mike has continued his education, with classes in law enforcement, criminal justice, computer technology and law enforcement administration. To do this he has selected classes at Wenatchee Valley College, Central Washington University and various other institutions, obtaining over 150 credit hours while working at the Sheriff's office.

His professional memberships in over 20 organizations show the range of responsibilities of law enforcement, including associations concerned with:

• Narcotics Investigation
• Child Abuse and Fatality Review
• Fire Incident Command and Investigation
• Domestic Violence
• Law Enforcement Accreditation
• Training and Instruction

Aside from his career, Mike's interests are his family and his community. He and his spouse, Kelly, have four children:

• Matthew, age 15
• Andrew, age 13
• Nathan, age 11
• Rachael, age 9

Mike's interest in the youth of the valley is evident from his participation in over a dozen community youth-related programs and organizations, ranging from Lunch Buddies, Boy Scouts and Youth Crime and Violence Task Force to being a Board Member of CASA, the Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children.

In 1996 Mike was invited into Wenatchee Rotary by Gary Montague, whom he considers to be a true friend. Mike is a Paul Harris Sustaining Member.
