RICHARD C. (Dick) HARRIS

Richard C. "Dick" Harris was born June 4, 1931, in Pierce, Colorado. Dick and Bonnie were married in 1953 and have two children: Leslie Hester, who lives with her husband in Spokane and Scott, who lives in Dallas, Texas. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University and became an aircraft maintenance officer in the U.S. Air Force.

In 1956, upon returning from a tour of duty in Korea, Dick joined Bonnie in Wenatchee, where she was a teacher and he became employed by the Aluminum Company of America as a Sr. Mechanical Engineer. He was appointed the Manager of the Port of Chelan County in 1972 and served in that post for 22 years. Prior to retiring, he was honored as a life member in the Washington Public Ports Association and in the Pacific Northwest Waterways Association.

He has been active and involved in the community including United Way, Boy Scouts, Chamber of Commerce Director, PTA President, and active member of the Methodist Church. He currently is a member of the Board of the North Central Washington Museum.

As a member of the Wenatchee Rotary Club since 1972, he served as its president in 1979-80. He is Paul Scea Fellow in the Wenatchee Rotary Club Foundation, both he and Bonnie are Paul Harris Fellows and Benefactors. Dick was the team leader for a Group Study Exchange Team from District 5060 to District 2830 in Tasmania, Australia, in 1994. He served as District Governor for District 5060 in 1995-1996 and continues to be active in District activities. He currently is Assistant Registrar for the Portland Institute 2000 for Zones 23 and 24 in September, 2000.

Dick and Bonnie enjoy traveling and most recently attended the International Convention in Singapore last summer.
