Lloyd L. Berry
Rotarian Lloyd Berry is a native of the Wenatchee Valley, spending his youth in Cashmere and moving to Wenatchee in 1964. Sue is also a native of the valley. As a matter of fact, their parents and grandparents and even Lloyd's great grandparents lived in the valley!
A graduate in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington, Lloyd is a Registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor. He spent 27 years working for Chelan County, the majority of that time as County Engineer. Retiring six years ago, Lloyd says he doesn't miss the pressures of the job but misses working with some fine people.
Lloyd and Sue Remley were married in 1962 and they have three grown children and six grandchildren.
Their oldest daughter, Kristen, is married to Erik Holmberg from Seattle. He and Kristen, and their four children, moved to Wenatchee in July 2000 where Erik will continue his profession as a dentist.
Daughter Leanne is married to Tom Gallagher, a Tacoma native. They have two children and live on Mercer Island. Tom is Vice-President of Howard S. Wright Construction Company.
Son John Berry is unmarried. He has a wide list of interests and works in Construction Management with Sierra Construction Company in Redmond.
Sue was a second grade teacher for 15 years at Washington School and continues in a social relationship with past and present teachers. She continues to enjoy observing the growth of her past pupils.
Lloyd's father was a long time member of the Cashmere Rotary Club where Lloyd recalls visiting in the 1950's, as a high school representative.
Lloyd joined the Wenatchee Rotary Club in June of 1975 and he believes he has attended or made-up every meeting since joining.
In retirement, Lloyd enjoys combining Rotary and travel, having visited clubs in about 15 countries on 4 continents. He observes that by using Rotary International's web page, "WHERE CLUBS MEET", a little travel planning can produce some wonderful Rotary fellowship almost anyplace.
Again, combining Rotary and travel Lloyd said, "I had the opportunity to travel twice to Danli, Honduras, 60 miles east of Tegucigalpa, accompanied by other Rotarians. First, in 1990, we visited Rotarians in different towns, seeking a worthy humanitarian project for our club."
A year later Lloyd led the group that returned to Danli to deliver our club's contribution of $10,000 toward the construction of the youth care facility for underprivileged children,
Asked about other travel, Lloyd said, "Sue and I have visited Wenatchee's three sister cities in Japan, Russia and Korea. More recently, we visiting Stockholm where I met the District Governor of Rotary District 2350 which now includes Troitsk, Russia."
Lloyd has another favorite activitiy -- backpacking to the more remote high lakes of the Cascades. He has hiked into most of them, sometimes with Rotarians including Earl Tilly, Dick Ottosen, and Ben Knecht.
Lloyd is a Paul Harris and Paul Scea Fellow. Through the years Lloyd has served on many committees as well as the boards of both the club's foundation and the International Foundation.
